Overview
Behind a broad street front in the middle of Gueliz, a hall leads through to a large open-air garden, with tables set among the trees. The house dates from 1946 and has passed from fathers to daughters: since 2021 the third generation of the Rmili family has run it, women for the first time. Grandfather Omar planted the trees. Father Brahim adopted the peacocks and parakeets. The palms grow very tall, and strings of lights form a soft ceiling over the tables. By day peacocks walk around the garden and tortoises sit in the sun, while children play ping-pong and adults have lunch in the shade. After dark the lights come on and the place turns more intimate, suited to a dinner for two. The menu is short and built for groups, with dishes and sides shared in the middle. Roast chicken leads, smoked with rosemary and served by the half with seasonal vegetables and hand-cut fries. From the wood fire comes the La Paix grill plate, with cutlets and chicken and minced-meat skewers. There is also a m'hamssa risotto with grilled prawns, and sea bass mkila with homemade chermoula. To finish, the 1946 chocolate mousse is made with tahini cream and sesame crisps. The house pours its own cuvée, produced with Domaine des 3 Cavaliers in gris, white and a natural red, and the bar mixes signature and alcohol-free cocktails.
