Riad Dar des Arts

Behind the high walls of Riad Zitoune Jdid, Riad Dar des Arts takes its name from the house's first owner, an art merchant who lived here with his seven daughters, each devoted to a different craft. That spirit of making is still legible in the rooms: turquoise and grey embroidered fabrics, mother-of-pearl inlays, ornate ceilings, ochre tones drawn loosely from Cocteau's 1948 film 'Noces de Sable,' which inspired the largest suite. Nine rooms in total spread over two floors, including a single tucked at ground level for solo travellers and a deluxe suite with king-size bed, jacuzzi, and lounge area. The pace is the point. Days unfold slowly between the courtyard, lined in carved plaster, and the rooftop terrace, where a tranquil pool sits among loungers and shaded sofas. Breakfast comes al fresco when the weather allows, and dinner can move upstairs in the evening. The terrace also opens for yoga and small private gatherings, and the riad keeps a quietly social register without ever tipping into noise. Dar des Arts belongs to Dar Society, a small network with sister houses in Paris, Osaka, and Mida. In Marrakech, that lineage reads as restraint: a riad that doesn't perform tradition, doesn't oversell craft, simply lets the medina filter through carved plaster and warm fabrics. Reservations are advised, especially for the Suite Deluxe. By late afternoon, the courtyard cools while the rooftop catches the last light, and the city's noise narrows to a hum behind the walls.
