Sofitel Marrakech - Pool

In Hivernage, behind the long ochre facade of the Sofitel Marrakech, the main pool unfolds in a slow curve through a grove of date palms, several of them rising straight out of planted islands in the middle of the water. The surface is broad and unhurried, patterned underneath with spiral mosaics that bend the light, an infinity edge dissolving toward the greenery at one end. It is the largest of several set across the resort gardens, closer to a private oasis than a hotel deck. Cushioned loungers and cream parasols line the warm stone, and the fronds throw moving shade across them as the sun crosses. Early on, the water lies still and unbroken, a few swimmers tracing lengths before the heat. By late afternoon the light turns gold, the red umbrellas of the bar glow against the green, and cold drinks arrive while the hours stretch and no one checks the time. A heated section stays open through the cooler months, so the season barely decides the day. A resort pool in the full sense: generous and unhurried, shaped for a long stay rather than a quick swim. The gardens close it off from the traffic outside, the Atlas sometimes showing beyond the treeline, and the spa keeps a quieter, heated basin indoors for the days the wind picks up. Whatever the hour, the rhythm settles into the same things: shade, a slow lap, a hand trailed through the shallows.
