Overview
An old Saadian house in the Marrakech medina is home to a museum of Moroccan music. It sets out the many heritages of that music, Andalusian, mystical, Berber and African, as something to look at and to listen to. The reception apartment follows Arab-Andalusian architecture. In the Mouassine douiria, a guest apartment, the original decoration is still in place, and it is the backdrop for exhibitions and concerts. On display are traditional instruments, along with decorative objects and other local craft, and the exhibitions come with documentary films. The concerts in the douiria each follow one tradition: Arab-Andalusian, Amazigh or Gnawa. A concert can be booked with Moroccan tea and pastries, or with a traditional meal of salad, a tagine and dessert. The house also offers a tea ceremony, with mint and sugar brewed and served on the siniya tray. On the terrace, a café serves breakfast, coffee and fresh juices. One ticket also opens the Maison de la Photographie de Marrakech, the partner museum.
