On 16 October, MCC Gallery opens its new season with the first chapter of "Where the Sun Lies", a solo exhibition by the Franco-Moroccan artist Mounir Ayache. The opening starts at 6:30 pm.
The exhibition takes light as the starting point for a journey through memory, territory and possible futures. Drawing on the landscapes, narratives and imaginaries of the Maghreb, it brings heritage and anticipation into dialogue through a constellation of sculptures, images, artefacts and digital devices.
The horizon anomaly
The starting point is a rupture in the fabric of reality: a vessel from a speculative future, intimately connected to light, has materialised in our present. The exhibition traces its trajectory from the East, where light originates, to a beach in the West, where the sun sets.

Between matter and data
3D printing, resin, CNC milling, light, topographical data and digital imagery allow Mounir Ayache to bring fragments of reality into dialogue with speculative forms. Scans of heritage sites are integrated into new geometries, where the arabesque becomes a structure, a language and an algorithm.
Born in Bordeaux in 1991, Mounir Ayache lives and works in Marseille. His work explores the intersection of art and contemporary technologies, and has been shown at Manifesta 13, the Villa Medici, the Arab World Institute, the Jeu de Paume and the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art.
