Overview

Palais Jad Mahal has occupied its stretch of Rue Haroun Errachid in Hivernage for well over a decade, and in that time it has settled into a role few venues in Marrakech attempt: restaurant, lounge bar, dinner show, and nightclub under one palatial roof. The building follows traditional Moroccan palace architecture, arranged around a central patio where pools catch the light and fountains set a low murmur from the moment you step through the door. The decor layers Moroccan craft, from carved wood panels and ornate ceilings to zellij-topped tables, with Indian accents in jewel-toned fabrics, shimmering lanterns, and richly coloured drapery. The kitchen operates across three registers: Moroccan, French, and Thai. Lamb tagines, confit lamb shank, delicately spiced curries, and French-leaning plates share the carte, and the range is broader than most single-concept restaurants would dare. The wine list runs from Moroccan vineyards through to French terroirs, and the lounge bar mixes signature cocktails in a setting of subdued lighting and live music. During the first dinner service, fire-eaters, belly dancers, and acrobats thread through the dining room in a choreographed parade that has become the house signature. Once the show wraps, a live band takes over the stage most evenings, carrying the energy through to the early hours. For those who want to keep going, Babouchka, the connected nightclub, picks up where the band leaves off. It is a big venue, seating nearly four hundred, and that scale is both its strength and its challenge. On the right night, the combination of spectacle, cuisine, and setting produces an evening unlike anything else in the district. Booking for the first service is essential if the show is the reason you are coming.
