Overview
Mandala Society Koutoubia opened in November 2025 on Rue de la Koutoubia, tucked between the mosque and Jemaa el-Fna. The building is arranged over three levels, with large arched windows that flood the rooms with light and a rooftop terrace framed by two of the city's most recognizable landmarks. A reading corner with bookshelves and mismatched chairs invites lingering, and the charcoal oven visible from the dining room adds a live-fire warmth to the space. The menu follows the same meat-free, pescatarian philosophy as the original Bahia location. Mornings start with Lummur pancakes, shakshuka, and the signature banana bread with carob chocolate spread. By lunch, the charcoal oven drives plates like the vegan Buddha bowl and a Norwegian salmon burger on rye sourdough with raspberry hoisin glaze. The plant shawarma wrap with smoked eggplant and shiitake mushrooms is a standout, as is the probiotic Líf salad built on venere rice and fermented vegetables. A take-away counter at street level serves specialty coffee, fresh juices, and house-baked treats for those who want to keep moving. The design draws on what the founders describe as Icelandic simplicity: clean lines, natural materials, lots of greenery, and an atmosphere that deliberately slows the pace. It is the newest member of the Mandala family, and its position between the Koutoubia and the square gives it an energy and a view that the quieter Bahia branch does not have.
