Le Grand Bazar sits directly on Jemaa El-Fna, occupying a century-old hotel that has been remade into something halfway between a restaurant and a cabinet of curiosities. The first-floor dining room is filled with vintage objects sourced from the city's flea markets, arranged in low light around a bar and a small stage where live musicians and the occasional magician perform against a backdrop of electro-swing. It feels theatrical without tipping into theme park, a dimly lit world of old mirrors, worn leather, and collected oddities that somehow belongs to Marrakech. The cooking crosses borders with more confidence than most places on the square. The mhamssa, a signature dish of saffron-infused pearl pasta with mushrooms, draws on deep Moroccan technique. The tanjia arrives as it should: slow-cooked for hours until the beef gives way at a touch. The chicken pastilla is properly candied and spiced. But the menu also carries homemade ravioli, a solid burger, and salmon skewers on mango tagliatelle, so nobody at the table needs to compromise. Desserts lean Moroccan-French: a chocolate moelleux with an amlou heart and corne de gazelle ice cream, a praline pastilla layered between caramelized sheets, a tarte tatin finished with Atlas mountain fleur de sel. Upstairs, the rooftop terrace opens onto six hundred square metres of greenery and lantern light, with the Koutoubia minaret directly ahead and the square's nightly spectacle unfolding below. A smaller "sky area" at the very top offers the full panorama, from medina rooftops to the Atlas range in winter. The energy shifts between floors: below is candlelight and music, above is open air and the long view. Both work, and both feel distinct from the tourist restaurants that line the rest of the square.
