Overview
L'Asiatique par Jean-Georges sits inside La Mamounia, the palace hotel that has anchored the western edge of the medina since 1923. The restaurant emerged from the hotel's most recent renovation, when the design duo Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku opened up the former Italian dining room and reimagined it as something smaller, warmer, and more deliberately seductive. Traditional Moroccan architectural detailing was kept intact; the furniture shifts the register, mixing Chinese, Japanese, and Thai references in pale wood set against deep indigo fabrics. The lighting draws the room into soft focus by evening, making this one of the most romantic tables in the city. The menu is the work of Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the Alsatian-born, New York-based chef whose restaurants span dozens of addresses worldwide. His reputation rests on a lighter, brighter strain of French technique filtered through Southeast Asian aromatics. At La Mamounia, the card reads like a condensed tour of the region: Vietnamese chicken curry, lamb Vindaloo, pad thai, steamed sea bream, and crispy tempura. A Kabuki tasting menu unfolds the experience across several courses. The terrace extends the dining room into La Mamounia's legendary gardens. It is open to non-hotel guests, though you will need a reservation and attire to match the setting.
