Overview
Koya occupies a dark, contemporary space on Avenue Echouhada in the Hivernage district, Marrakech's nightlife quarter. The restaurant takes its name from the Koya-San massif in Japan, and the kitchen follows a similar reach: a broad Asian fusion menu pulling from Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Latin American traditions. The card moves fluidly between sushi, wok dishes, ceviches, and sharing plates, with the emphasis on bold presentation and ingredients that reward a table willing to order widely. The interior is moody and sleek, all warm lighting and contemporary lines, with an outdoor terrace that offers a calmer alternative under the open sky. But calm is not really the point. Each evening follows a deliberate arc from seated dinner toward full-blown show: a resident DJ builds the soundtrack while live saxophone and percussion weave through the room. On weekends, Gnawa musicians join the line-up, adding a distinctly Moroccan pulse to the pan-Asian setting. By later in the evening, the line between restaurant and lounge blurs entirely. Koya is best approached as a night out with friends rather than a quiet dinner. The cocktail list is long and competently mixed, the crowd dresses up, and the energy tilts firmly toward celebration. Portions are refined rather than generous, so order broadly and share. Reserve ahead, arrive hungry, and know that the volume will climb as the night progresses.
