Overview
Flowers occupies the rooftop and upper floors of Dar Marjana, a riad that has stood near Bab Doukkala since the early 19th century. The building carries decades of history as one of the medina's storied dining addresses, but Flowers is something entirely new: an open-fire kitchen and rooftop bar led by Swedish-born chef Richard McCormick, who arrived in Marrakech after years running some of Helsinki's most talked-about restaurants, including Yes Yes Yes. The cooking is built around seasonal sharing plates, with ingredients sourced from local growers and prepared over live flame. The menu draws on North African and Mediterranean flavours but carries traces of McCormick's years in Southeast Asia and Scandinavia. Dishes arrive vivid and generous, plated with a botanical sensibility that gives the table the feel of a garden in full bloom. Vegetable dishes hold equal billing alongside seafood and grilled meats. The wine list includes natural and local labels, some exclusive to the restaurant, and the cocktail programme runs both alcoholic and alcohol-free with equal care. The space blends reclaimed materials and clean Scandinavian lines with traditional Moroccan architecture: carved plaster, original proportions, and lantern-lit passages leading up to a rooftop lounge with views across the medina skyline. An indoor dining room with a fireplace offers warmth on cooler evenings. The atmosphere is relaxed and personal, closer to someone's home than a formal restaurant, and the service matches that tone. Access is through a narrow derb near Dar El Bacha, with staff waiting at the entrance to guide you in.
