Kabana
Kissariat Ben Khalid R'mila, 1 Rue Fatima Zahra, Marrakesh 40000, Morocco
Overview
Kabana occupies two distinct spaces on its third-floor rooftop, just outside the medina walls, within clear sight of the Koutoubia minaret, and operates across different registers depending on the hour. An open-air terrace faces the city and the minaret; an indoor lounge, the Roofloor, sits alongside it. By evening, the two spaces become something else entirely. The transformation is deliberate. Sunset brings the first wave of cocktail drinkers drawn by the skyline, then the kitchen runs long into the night while the programming builds across the evening. Live bands and guest DJs follow through the night, the music shifting from background to foreground. The Roofloor moves into micro-club mode for the later hours: small, low-lit, and charged, a different atmosphere from the open terrace but connected to the same evening arc. The crowd at Kabana is notably varied: people eating early with the view, people arriving late with no intention of sitting down, and everything in between. The rooftop itself is lush by Marrakech standards, plants and low seating, the minaret visible to the south and the medina's roofscape spreading in every direction. The programming is consistent enough to have built a regular following that structures certain evenings of their week around it. Kabana works because it has learned how to hold both the dinner crowd and the night crowd without asking either to compromise.
