Overview
Villa Makassar occupies a double riad in the Kasbah district of the Medina, ten minutes from Jemaa el-Fnaa, the 1,300 square metres of two interconnected houses organized around a single design concept executed with an unusual level of material commitment: Art Deco. The ten rooms and suites apply the visual language of the 1920s and 1930s by drawing simultaneously from the Wiener Werkstätte, the Bauhaus, De Stijl, Russian Constructivism, and American Art Deco currents, each room articulating a different facet of the movement through its own material specification. The materials are not approximations: shagreen, parchment, Macassar ebony, rosewood, Iranian onyx, Mount Sinai stone, Tahitian mother-of-pearl, and Guatemalan marble appear throughout at the level of precision that the design concept demands. A heated outdoor pool and a heated indoor counter-current pool provide the water amenity across two zones of the building. A hammam and massage room occupy the spa area. The rooftop restaurant serves from an elevated position with Medina views; a bar with Atlas Mountain views operates at a different level. An art library, reading room, and solarium complete the communal offer. Villa Makassar's guest profile is as specific as its aesthetic: a property for those who understand what they are looking at, and for whom the material quality of every surface is the primary reason to choose it.
