Overview
Riad Sakkan occupies twelve rooms and suites in the Mouassine district, in the section of the Medina whose concentration of concept stores, galleries, and restaurants makes it the most culturally active neighbourhood in the old city for guests who want Marrakech in its contemporary register. The building centres on two courtyards: one with a heated pool bordered by chequerboard tile, its surrounding walls covered in jasmine, the other with a fountain and potted palms and banana trees. The rooftop houses the bar and restaurant, serving Moroccan-European fusion cuisine from breakfast through dinner, with Atlas Mountain views across the medina skyline providing the spatial context for the social dimension of the property. A library and relaxation lounge complete the quieter interior positions. The twelve rooms and suites were designed in collaboration with Willem Smit and styled individually with vintage pieces, curated art, and camel leather floors; the suites add copper or silver bathtubs, the Master Suite a four-poster bed and fireplace. All rooms have Egyptian cotton bedding and Botanika bath products. Yoga classes and cooking workshops are available on request. Staff recommendations for the neighbourhood translate into actionable information rather than generic hotel suggestions, a service quality that the Mouassine positioning makes particularly valuable given the pace at which the district's culinary and cultural offer evolves. Riad Sakkan operates in the laidback luxury register — serious in its material and hospitality standards, specific in its design identity, and genuinely engaged with the neighbourhood it occupies.
