Overview
MORO Marrakech occupies a position five minutes from the Majorelle Gardens, its design language drawing from the architecture of the 1970s and the desert modernism of California rather than from the Moroccan tradition that surrounds it, a decision that produces interiors unlike anything else in this part of the city. Ten suites are composed in buff plastered walls, Moroccan textiles, low-slung sofas, metal side tables, and crisp white linens, the palette running through greys, browns, and white in a register that is warm without being heavy. The outdoor pool provides relief in a setting that is quieter than the Medina despite its proximity to the gardens. A wellness centre adds the interior dimension. Behind a concept store that functions as the property's public face, a small restaurant serves home-style Moroccan cuisine in a secluded courtyard, the space intimate enough that the meal feels like an invitation rather than a service. MORO operates with the logic of a private apartment block that has been opened to guests: the rooms are large, the public spaces are focused, and the presence of the concept store gives the whole property a reason to exist beyond accommodation. The Majorelle Gardens and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum at three hundred metres place guests within the contemporary cultural axis of the Gueliz neighborhood, the Medina accessible by taxi in minutes from a property that has chosen a different register from the one that rules inside the old city's walls.
