Overview
Lodge K sits at the edge of the Palmeraie behind high cob walls, its interior a theatrical garden world composed of five lodges and three suites each dedicated to a different civilization and its visual logic. The African lodge responds to the forms and surfaces of sub-Saharan art; the Art Deco lodge celebrates the geometry and glamour of the interwar period; the Egyptian lodge constructs its atmosphere from Nile Valley iconography; the Master Lodge centers on an enormous nomadic chef's tent. The Balinese lodge has its own private heated pool positioned directly in front of the bed, the water and the sleeping space in immediate proximity. Throughout the grounds, a density of planting that includes palms, cacti, pine, coconut, olive, bamboo, agaves, roses, fig, and mulberry trees creates an interior landscape where the walls of the property are invisible from within. The main pool, twenty metres in diameter and finished in blue-black lagoon tadelakt, contains a tropical green island at its center, the reflection of the surrounding vegetation doubling the garden on the water's surface. The hammam is buried in the vegetation and shaped to recall an ancient vaulted burial mound, its steam rooms offering body scrubs combining techniques from multiple traditions. Lodge K is a property that operates on its own terms: the theatricality is deliberate, the references global, and the result unlike anything else in the Palmeraie.
