Overview
Jnane Rumi is among the most considered openings Marrakech has seen in recent years: a restored mid-century estate in the Palmeraie designed by the Tunisian architect Charles Boccara, whose architectural centrepiece is a bathroom with a nine-metre domed ceiling that establishes the building's ambition immediately and without apology. Seven en-suite bedrooms in the main house are joined by an annex and three separate pavilions, the arrangement giving the property enough variation in type to serve different kinds of stay: the house for groups who want a shared centre, the pavilions for those who need more distance from one another. The century-old gardens hold over a hundred and fifty palms alongside olive and pistachio trees, with herb and vegetable plots below the canopy and the scent of rosemary, lemon thyme, and lavender at ground level. A thirteen-by-six-metre pool sits beneath the old palms. The art collection draws on contemporary North African and European artists and extends across murals, tapestries, and site-specific installations, giving the interior a cultural identity that reads as programme rather than decoration. Events, talks, and art tours are part of the property's programming, open to residents and guests alike. A hammam and treatment rooms complete the wellness offer. Jnane Rumi is a place where time, as even a sober description confirms, flows like water, which is what happens when a well-run estate in a palm grove leaves guests without schedule.
