Overview
Caravan by Our Habitas sits in the Agafay Desert, forty-five minutes south of Marrakech, where the landscape turns to compacted stone and low undulating ridges under a sky that, at night, holds more stars than seem possible from the city. Twenty tented lodges are arranged across the terrain, Berber-inspired in form but furnished with the kind of attentive detail that separates a desert camp from a desert experience: wooden features, en-suite bathrooms, private stone terraces facing the Atlas Mountains, and in the higher categories, sliding glass doors that open the bedroom to the landscape without removing any comfort. The mood is organized around collective experience rather than isolation: two swimming pools, a spa, a yoga pavilion, live music in the evenings, and a restaurant called Olivar that looks directly over the rocky dunes. Activities extend the landscape outward: horses, camels, bicycles, and open terrain. The Agafay Desert is not the Sahara — it has no sand dunes — but it has its own geometry, flat-topped ridges and dry valleys and a silence in the middle of the day that is as complete as anything in Morocco. From a tent at altitude, with the Atlas range at full length on one horizon, that silence is the main event The property fills a specific need in the Marrakech orbit: the Agafay plateau has the mood of a desert without requiring a three-day journey, and Caravan provides the infrastructure to inhabit that mood properly for a night or several. It works best after dark, when the fires are lit and the silence settles.
