La Pause Pool
Agafay, Morocco
Experience
Romantic, Stunning Setting, Family-friendly
Overview
La Pause sits in the Agafay plateau forty minutes south-west of Marrakech, off the road that climbs into the dry hills. The camp is built around adobe rather than tents: fourteen rooms in low earth-toned structures, plus a row of bivouac tents below them, the architecture set into the slope rather than against it. The two pools belong to the property's quieter rhythm. There is no electricity, no air conditioning, no engine noise; light comes from candles and lanterns once the sun drops. Day passes are open to non-residents, with a lunch combination or an evening dinner option, and children are welcomed at the same terms as adults. By day the pools hold the light of the desert, by sunset the olive grove above the pools fills with people taking aperitifs as the colour of the hills changes. The dining tents serve Moroccan cooking through lunch and dinner, generous and unhurried, with vegetarian options that follow the season. Live music and performances can be arranged for the evening, from a Gnawa trio to an Arabo-Andalusian set, with fire jugglers and dancers when the camp turns into something closer to a fête. The setting carries the property: the desert stays close, the silence stays denser than it does in town, and the day passes between water, fire, and stars. The kind of place that extends naturally into the evening, whether the visit ends at sunset or continues through the night.
