Overview
Nobu Riad occupies a restored nineteenth-century merchant's house a few steps from Jemaa el-Fna, its high walls concealing a domestic world of tadelakt plaster, terracotta floors, and eucalyptus ceiling beams composed with the wabi-sabi attention to material and deliberate imperfection that defines the Nobu aesthetic. The riad belongs to the Nobu Hospitality brand, the same group behind Nobu Hotel Marrakech, and brings its signature philosophy of restraint and precision into the more intimate register of a traditional Medina house. Six suites range from twenty to fifty-five square metres, each with a fireplace and private bathroom, the ground-floor rooms opening directly onto the central courtyard. That courtyard, one hundred and fifty square metres of privacy in the middle of the Medina, is shaded by palms and centred on a fountain generating the low constant sound that riad life turns on. The walnut beams and handcrafted tilework in each room reflect the dual inheritance of the building: nineteenth-century Moroccan craftsmanship filtered through a contemporary sensibility that knows when to intervene and, just as importantly, when to leave well alone. The rooftop terrace extends the experience vertically, offering panoramic views over the Medina with the Koutoubia minaret at one compass point and the Atlas Mountains visible at another on clear mornings. Six suites means stays here retain the quality of being a guest in a particular house rather than occupying a room in a hotel, the courtyard shared without feeling crowded, the building comprehensible as a private space despite its address. It holds its distinction quietly.
